MANILA—One of the staff members of the Mayor’s Office of San Juan city has died because of COVID-19, Mayor Francis Zamora confirmed on Facebook Friday.

“Paalam sa aking masipag, mabait, mapapagkatiwalaan at maasahan na Mayor's Office staff na si Ricky Rodero na pumanaw dahil sa COVID-19,” Zamora wrote.

“Maraming salamat sa iyong maayos na paglilingkod sa mga mamamayan ng San Juan. RIP”

(Farewell to my hardworking, kind, trustworthy and dependable Mayor’s Office staff Ricky Rodero, who died because of COVID-19. Thank you for serving the residents of San Juan.)

Zamora did not give further details.

The announcement came almost two weeks since Zamora said he was undergoing self-quarantine after interacting with a member of his staff who tested positive for COVID-19.

Zamora at that time did not identify his staff. The mayor later tested negative for COVID-19.

San Juan is among the cities in Metro Manila with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

As of April 10, 6 p.m., the city had a total of 152 COVID-19 cases, 255 patients under investigation and 531 persons under monitoring.
