MANILA—A man who works as a security guard in Makati is the first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in Kawit town, Cavite, its mayor said on Thursday.
The patient underwent a swab test at Makati Medical Center, but left the hospital against doctors’ orders, according to Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo.
The mayor said Barangay Toclong officials were in contact with the patient and facilitated his return there without the approval of the village chief.
Aguinaldo said this was a breach of enhanced community quarantine regulations.
As of Friday, the patient in question was admitted at a local hospital.
The health of his family and the people who came in close contact with him are being strictly monitored. Contact tracing has also been initiated. — With a report from Kevin Manalo, ABS-CBN News
