MANILA - As the summer season starts, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Thursday that it will intensify anti-drug efforts in beach resorts and party hubs.

The newly created PNP Drug Enforcement Group, in particular, will focus on operations concerning party drugs like ecstasy, said police unit chief Senior Superintendent Graciano Mijares.

"It's summer time, so it's party time so likely maraming events, maraming nagbabakasyon, especially on the beaches so iyun ang tinitingnan natin," Mijares said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

Mijares' announcement comes after P400,000 worth of 140 ecstasy pills were seized from a Korean-American national, who had just arrived in Pasay from Cebu province.

The suspect, identified at Jun No, allegedly distributed drugs in casinos and concert grounds in Cebu.
