MANILA - The Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) has arrested a 31-year-old woman after allegedly pretending to be kidnapped and demanding ransom money from her live-in partner.
PNP-AKG Spokesperson Supt. Elmer Cereno said the live-in partner reported the “kidnapping” last Monday.
"Noong pumunta ang Luzon Field Unit natin, 'yung investigation division ng Anti-Kidnapping [Group], na-trace natin ang kinaroroonan ng suspect, doon natin nalaman through proper investigation, natunton nila ang pinagtataguan ng suspect natin," he said.
Cereno said they did not know at the time that the kidnapper and the so-called victim were one and the same.
"Nagkatawaran, P1 million then bumaba ng P800,000 hanggang bumaba ng P20,000," he said.
"Every time na tumatawag, nag-te-text, ang babae pa rin ang nakakausap."
Negotiations lasted for two days. It later turned out to be a hoax. The female suspect was found in a resort in Lakandula, Lemery, Batangas.
"Inamin niya na kagagawan niya ang kidnap me. It was a hoax. Dahil napag-alaman natin na lulong na pala sa utang itong suspek," Cereno said.
The suspect said she needed money to pay her debt, which amounted to P500,000.
"Naipit po ako sa malaking utang ko na kailangan kong bayaran ngayong linggo," the suspect said.
"P550,000. Ginamit ko po iyon sa negosyo at saka itinulong ko rin po sa pamilya ko. Di na po ako umuwi. Sumakay na lang po ako ng van. Hindi ko naman alam na papuntang Lemery pala yon."
She added that she did not realize her live-in partner would turn to authorities for help.
"Hindi ko na naisip ang tama. Hindi ko alam na ganito ang aabutin. Blangko na ang isip ko," she said.
The AKG said “kidnap me” cases happen since it is an easy way to make money. Nevertheless, they still initially consider these cases as kidnapping.
"We see to it na inaaksiyunan agad natin whether kidnapping o other forms of crimes, na dapat malunasan. At the same time, yung pagdulog ng complainant natin, nagkaroon agad ng anggulong ransom, nakita naman natin ang mga text at tawag. Nakita natin that it was a case of kidnapping for ransom, but in the long run, as our men in the ground pursued this case, natunton natin kung saan ang kinaroroonan ng victim, yon pala suspek siya," Cereno said.
"Paano kung totoo nga na kidnapping talaga. As much as possible, bibigyan talaga natin ng solusyon," Cereno added.
The suspect will be charged with unjust vexation as in all other "kidnap me" cases.
