MANILA - The first case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) in Eastern Visayas has been discharged from hospital after recovering from the disease, local authorities said Wednesday.
The 51-year-old woman who hails from Catarman, Northern Samar has been given a clean bill of health.
As a precautionary measure, she was ordered to undergo a 14-day home-quarantine.
Local authorities said the patient was released from a referral hospital in Tacloban City on Wednesday.
The woman was confirmed to have contracted the virus on March 23 and was confined in the hospital for 20 days.
Doctors and nurses at the hospital made a banner for the patient congratulating her for surviving the disease.
"Godspeed to our 1st COVID-19 recovered patient in Region 8. Wishing you good health and a long life," the banner read.
As of April 1, the region has 1 admitted COVID-19 patient and 400 patients under investigation (PUIs).
The Philippines has so far recorded 2,311 coronavirus infections, latest data from the health ministry showed. The total figure includes 96 fatalities and 50 people who recovered from the disease.
