MANILA--The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) raided on Wednesday a safe house in Cainta, Rizal, suspected of being a storage for stolen vehicles.
Recovered from the compound in Barangay Santo Domingo were a stolen luxury car, sedans, and taxi cabs that have been stripped of their parts.
HPG director Roberto Fajardo said his group executed a search warrant stemming from a complaint over a stolen Mercedes Benz.
"Isang sasakyan lang dapat pero tumambad sa atin ang marami palang sasakyan,” he said.
HPG operatives also found out the license plates of taxi cabs were transferred to other public utility vehicles.
Authorities are looking for a casino financier who allegedly sells pawned vehicles to unsuspecting buyers or "rent-sangla."
Car mechanic Ramil Belen said he was unsure if the vehicles were stolen or not.
HPG is also looking for its 2 retired personnel, who could have served as protectors in the car rental scheme.
