MANILA - Muntinlupa City has placed its residents under a 24-hour curfew as government enforced the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to prevent the spread of the highly infectious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The imposition of a round-the-clock curfew under Ordinance No. 2020-074, was signed by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Friday.

This, after the initial curfew hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. were found to be an ineffective deterrent against people going out.

By placing the city on a 24-hour curfew, “no person shall be be allowed to go out of their homes unless he falls under the exemptions provided by laws or ordinance.”

Under the ordinance, violators will be penalized.

A first-time offender will be reported with the barangay, his or her image captured for documentation, and would lose local government benefits.

Repeat offenders will have their relief goods and other assistance withheld until the end of the quarantine period.

Last Monday, Muntinlupa declared a state of calamity to enable the local government to tap quick response funds amid the COVID-19 emergency situation.

As of Saturday, the Philippines has recorded 262 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 18 deaths and 8 recoveries.
