MANILA - The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) has temporarily closed some toll plazas due to the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The following are closed to traffic:

  • Karuhatan Northbound exit (going to MacArthur from Segment 10)
  • Lawang Bato Northbound entry
  • Ciudad de Victoria (in Philippine Arena) Northbound exit, Southbound entry and Southbound exit
  • Tambubong Northbound entry, Northbound exit and Southbound entry
  • Mabiga Northbound and Southbound
  • Porac
  • Floridablanca

NLEX also shut down operations at the Mindanao entry with presence of military personnel.

As of Wednesday, traffic situation in the rest of NLEX's entry and exit points was light, said NLEX traffic senior manager Robin Ignacio.

Only those carrying basic goods, vehicles of workers involved in frontline services and emergency vehicles were allowed to enter.

"Sumunod lang po tayo sa implementasyon ng gobyerno. Ang authority ngayon nasa PNP (Philippine National Police). Sila ang nagpapatupad. Sino ang ina-allow na pumasok sa expressway, sila ang aming inaalalayan," Ignacio told radio DZMM.

(Let's comply with government's advice. The authority is with the PNP. They are implementing it. We are only catering to those allowed to enter the expressway.)

Luzon was placed under “enhanced community quarantine” until April 12 to contain the spread of COVID-19. To date, the Philippines has recorded 193 cases of the novel coronavirus, with 14 deaths and 7 recoveries.
