SWS: Duterte admin keeps 'very good' marks in Q4 2018

MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte's administration maintained a "very good" net satisfaction rating in the fourth quarter of 2018, results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

Of 1,440 respondents surveyed from December 16 to 19, 76 percent were satisfied with the national government's general performance, 15 percent were undecided, and 9 percent were dissatisfied.

This yielded a +66 net satisfaction rating, some 16 points higher than its +50 marks it achieved in the previous quarter.

Across geographic areas, the Duterte government's satisfaction rating rose to "excellent" in Mindanao (+75), "very good" in the Visayas (+63), "very good" in Metro Manila (+60), and "very good" in Balance Luzon (+65).

Satisfaction with the government also improved across socioeconomic classes.

It moved to "excellent" in richest class ABC (+72) and "excellent" in poorest class E (+70). Its grade among respondents from the "masa" or class D stayed "very good" at +65.


Results from the survey also revealed that the Duterte administration registered marked improvements on several issues. 

The government was "excellent" on promoting women's rights (+71) and building and maintenance of public works (+70).

It was "very good" on helping the poor (+68), protecting human rights (+62), reconstructing Marawi City (+60), fighting terrorism (+55), transparency in government activities (+54), and deciding quickly (+50).

Respondents said the government was good on fighting crimes (+44), reconciling with Muslim rebels (+43), eradicating graft and corruption (+42), defending Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (+40), reconciling with communist rebels (+39), fulfilling commitments in international treaties (+39), and foreign relations (+38).

However, it was "moderate" on ensuring that no family will ever be hungry (+28) and fighting inflation (+14).

The nationwide SWS survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of adults ages 18 and older.

The SWS surveyed 360 adults each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

It had sampling error margins of ±2.6% for national percentages, and ±5% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
