MANILA - A Parañaque lawmaker wants his colleagues in the House of Representatives to formally mourn NBA great Kobe Bryant, more than a month after the basketball superstar died in a helicopter crash with his daughter Gianna and 7 others near Los Angeles, California.
In House Resolution 739, Parañaque Rep. Eric Olivarez expressed the House's condolences on Bryant's death. In his resolution, Olivarez said Bryant inspired a generation of basketball players and fans worldwide with hoops skills and “unquenchable competitive fire.”
His resolution is pending before the House Committee on Rules.
Over the last two months, the House opened two exhibits on Bryant at the lower chamber's main lobby in tribute to the sports legend. It included his memorabilia from fans and personal collections of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
Cayetano, a basketball fan, had said he hoped House members would be inspired by the exhibit.
