MANILA - A group of lawyers is hoping more members of the alleged vigilante group Davao Death Squad will reveal themselves after the confession of retired police officer Arthur Lascañas.

“Sana. Umaasa po kami na sana mangyari 'yon,” Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) National Chairman Atty. Jose Manuel Diokno said in a Monday press briefing.

Diokno, however, refused to say if anyone else had approached their group, but said they are ready to "assist any person who would need legal assistance," especially in cases like this.

"We look at this case as one involving impunity and accountability," he said.

FLAG and Senator Antonio Trillanes presented Lascañas in a press conference, where he claimed the DDS killed people on orders of then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

This is contrary to the retired cop's testimony before a Senate inquiry in September, denying the existence of the vigilante group.

FLAG lawyer Arno Sanidad said Lascañas' confession was "voluntary on his part" and he will reveal his motivation for speaking in due time.

"He will explain it again why he came out at the proper time, under oath before the proper government panel," he said.

FLAG insisted on keeping confidential details regarding how Lascañas approached them. "The next time SPO Lascañas would speak, he would like to speak under oath before the proper government authority, which we hope would be here in a Senate investigation committee."

Lascañas' affidavit, said Sanidad, will be presented to the proper authorities at the correct time.
