A soldier was killed and 3 others were wounded after a 20 minute-clash between government forces and Abu Sayyaf fighters in Patikul town, Sulu on Valentine’s Day.
According to the Western Mindanao Command, the battle happened in the village of Igasan while soldiers of the 6th Special Forces were conducting ground offensives against the Abu Sayyaf, who were responsible for the deadly Jolo Cathedral bombing last month.
The wounded soldiers were immediately brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Hospital in Bus-bus, Jolo, Sulu for medical treatment.
Lt. Gen. Arnel dela Vega, commander of WestMinCom, said the military will "relentlessly pursue Abu Sayyaf fighters, weaken their will to fight, and crush groups propagating terrorism in Mindanao.”
The government intensified its offensive against the Abu Sayyaf following the twin blasts at Jolo Cathedral last month which left more than 20 dead and over 100 wounded.
