MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte warned the so-called “ninja cops”, or policemen involved in illegal drugs, of death as he claimed that only about four crooked police officers remain active.
Duterte made the announcement just days after the Philippine National Police announced a background check on 300 officers who could be possibly involved in illegal drugs.
“Yung mga generals pati yung mga ninja cops, and they are still around but they are reduce to about apat na lang, and they will die because may kasalanan sila sa bayan,” Duterte said during the induction of new Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) officers.
(The generals and ninja cops are reduced to about 4 only and they will die because they have done the nation wrong.)
The term “ninja cops” became popular late last year after some retired senior police officers accused then-police chief Oscar Albayalde of receiving kickbacks from narcotics sales and protecting the policemen involved from getting sacked.
The issue forced Albayalde to resign and left the PNP without an official chief for months.
Last month, the Department of Justice found probable cause to indict Albayalde and 12 other police officers in relation to the issue.
Albayalde said he welcomed the development as he will finally be given a chance to defend himself in court.
Duterte in the same month also formally named Police Gen. Archie Gamboa as head of the police force.
