MANILA — Two lawmakers on Sunday condemned the "disrespectful" act of a Chinese student nabbed for assaulting a cop with her "taho" inside an MRT station.

Chinese fashion design student Jiale Zhang, 23, was about to enter the platform area of the MRT Boni station on Saturday when a security guard stopped her at the turnstiles as she carried a cup of taho in hand.

She then went into a tantrum and threw the cup at PO1 William Cristobal, prompting her arrest.

In a statement, Magdalo party-list representative Gary Alejano slammed Zhang but blamed the government for emboldening the foreigner's attitude towards Filipinos.

"This is what happens when our government itself favors the Chinese and calls our country a 'Province of China.' Nagiging second-class citizens ang mga Pilipino at binabastos ng mga dayuhan sa sarili nating bayan," Alejano said.

The lawmaker then brought up similar acts of bullying by Chinese to Filipinos, particularly the reported intimidation of fishermen by members of the Chinese coast guard in Scarborough Shoal, a rich fishing ground off Zambales province.

"Hindi lamang ang ating mga mangingisda at mga sundalo sa West Philippine Sea ang nakararanas ng bullying dahil pati mismo ang ating mga kapulisan ay hindi ginagalang," he added.

For his part, Senator Panfilo Lacson urged authorities to declare Zhang as "undesirable alien" which will be the basis of her possible deportation case at the Bureau of Immigration.

"She’s undesirable. She’s also an alien. Declare her as both," Lacson said in a tweet.

Vice President Leni Robredo earlier said that Zhang's attack was a disrespect not just to the cops but to the Filipino people as well.

Zhang is currently detained at the headquarters of Mandaluyong police and is set to face charges of direct assault, disobedience to person in authority, and unjust vexation.

The incident has drawn calls for the woman's deportation online, as netizens fumed at the disrespectful act against the officer.
