NBI agents arrested foreign national Hugo Wray for alleged credit card fraud in Puerto Princesa City.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY (2nd UPDATE) - A foreign national was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for alleged credit card fraud here.

The suspect was identified by the NBI as Hugo Wray, 29, of unknown origin.

According to Norman Decampong, NBI agent in charge, the bureau received a tip from a local establishment owner regarding a suspicious transaction made by the suspect.

The suspect used his credit cards to purchase a high-end cellphone and appliances.

The NBI is also coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration in Palawan since the foreigner failed to show his passport.

If proven guilty, the suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act 8484, or the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998.

On Thursday, a man who identified himself as Hugo Wray, called ABS-CBN News to say that the man arrested is not Hugo Wray.

"I am Hugo Wray and I am not 29 years old. You put in your story that I was arrested [in Palawan] when I am in Manila," said the caller.

He told ABS-CBN News that he is a victim of identity theft.

As of posting, ABS-CBN News was getting the side of the NBI for an update on its investigation.
