The Department of Labor and Employment-Employees Compensation Commission (DOLE-ECC) in Davao region extended funeral assistance to the families of the victims of NCCC Mall on Tuesday afternoon.

Instead of P30,000, DOLE-ECC handed out a check worth P20,000 as burial assistance.

The agency said there was a delay in the release of cash aid since it was still being processed, requiring the families to comply with all the necessary requirements.

Atty. Evelyn Ramos, DOLE-Davao region assistant regional director, promised to give the victims’ families the remaining P10,000.

“Originally, ang burial assistance is P20,000, but then last August na-increase na siya into P30,000,” Ramos said.

Resan Artiaga is one of the beneficiaries who received the funeral assistance. He is the father of Missy Rose, one of the SSI call center agents who died after being trapped in the fire.

He thanked the government for helping them by providing the families some cash assistance.

Out of the 38 families, only 30 were able to get cash assistance. The other eight have yet to comply with the requirements.

The fire broke out at 9:40 a.m. of December 23 and gutted down the four-storey NCCC Mall in Ma-a, Davao City. Authorities were able to declare fire out at 5:15 p.m. the following day.
