54 former rebels get P65k financial assistance in Davao

DAVAO CITY - Fify-four former rebels who surrendered here received on Monday P65,000 from the national government through the enhanced comprehensive local integration program (E-CLIP)

With E-CLIP, former rebels get P15,000 for immediate assistance and P50,000 livelihood assistance.

Of the 54, 27 have also received additional pay for their surrendered firearms from the Davao City government, ranging from P25,000 for low powered firearms and P50,000 for high-powered firearms.

"I was just recruited. I didn't know that it can harm me. I'm thankful for their help, I will invest in a sari-sari store business," said alias Rina, 26, one of the surrenderees.

Mayor Sara Duterte, who led the distribution of checks, assured the safety and security of the former rebels and pledged relocation support as well as re-integration assistance for them.

The construction of the halfway house that will be called "Kalinaw Village" in Mahayag, Bunawan, Davao City is ongoing to provide shelter for former rebels.

“This 2019 mahuman na siya (It will be finished this 2019)," the mayor said. 

She also encouraged the former rebels to invest and be financially literate.
