MANILA -- Six artists will close 2019 in a New Year countdown show aptly titled “Decades,” that will feature songs from the roaring 1920s up to the blazing 2000s, to rewind 10 decades of music.
Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, Carla Guevarra-Laforteza, Yanah Laurel, Floyd Tena, Arman Ferrer and Gian Magdangal topbill the concert at Solaire Resort and Casino’s Waterside Restaurant.
“The artists will sing hits in a medley,” Solaire entertainment director Audie Gemora said. “They will do three sets starting at 7:30 p.m. and throughout the evening at the hotel’s Latin restaurant, Waterside. They will sing dance hits and other popular tunes from the decades.”
The show will be held simultaneously with “The Royal Affair,” a dinner-concert that features Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez at The Tent.
“At the strike of 11, the artists will all go to the pool area and join Third Avenue Band,” Gemora added. “A poolside party will take place with a spectacular drone show, as the people start their New Year countdown. At that time, Martin and Pops will join them, too.”
With Adonis Tabanda as musical director, “Decades” will bring the audience back in time, as they render the popular songs of the era.
“We had brainstorming amongst the singers, Tito Audie, Tita Gina Godinez and our MD,” said Valderrama-Martinez. “The goal is to travel through the decades with our songs. We will have solos, duets, trios and group numbers in three sets. The final set will lead to the countdown.”
This is the fourth year that Valderrama-Martinez has been doing the New Year countdown show at Solaire. Yet, she is never complaining about having to work on New Year’s Eve.
“I’m quite used to performing on New Year’s Eve,” she said. “I’ve been doing New Year’s Eve shows all the way back in Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong.”
Married to Lawrence Martinez, with whom she has a nine-year-old daughter, Simone, Valderrama-Martinez is nonetheless thankful that she also got to perform with her hubby in some New Year’s Eve shows in the past.
“In the shows where he doesn’t perform, he and Simone would always be in the audience to watch and do the countdown together,” she said. “We would continue afterwards and have our media noche with family and friends.”
