MANILA – Christmas is a season of giving, but there are some gifts that can do more harm than good to the people who will receive them, according to a feng shui expert.

Hanz Cua made the statement during his YouTube livestream for ABS-CBN News on Tuesday as he reminded the public to stay away from so-called unlucky gifts such as an empty wallet.

He advised putting money amounting to a figure ending in 8 (P168, P1,088, etc.) to reverse bad luck and attract more wealth.

Another gift that is considered bad luck in feng shui is a sharp object such as a knife or a pair of scissors, which symbolize cutting of ties.

“This symbolizes na pinuputol natin ang friendship natin sa ating loved one,” Cua said.

The feng shui expert also discouraged giving a handkerchief, a bonsai tree or a pair of shoes this Christmas as these signify a sad relationship, stagnant growth and separation, respectively.

While not all Filipinos believe in feng shui, many prefer to be on the safe side by adhering to its principles, buying trinkets and other “lucky” items for themselves and their homes.

Others, meanwhile, opt to respect the ancient Chinese system the same way that believers do not criticize their Catholic faith.
