MANILA – Emma Tiglao aims to “celebrate the diversity of Filipino beliefs” through her national costume for the Miss Intercontinental pageant.

The Philippine representative opted for a terno made of solihiya rattan weaves, accentuated by metalwork usually seen in altars and Christian images.

A colorful sarimanok headpiece completed the look which was referred to as “buklod” (bond of union).

Here’s a look:

“My national costume highlights the amalgamation of two predominant religious groups of the archipelago – the Muslims and the Christians,” Tiglao can be heard saying in a video posted on her Instagram page.

“The balance and harmony among these details showcase a tapestry of truly Filipino artistry and ingenuity, promoting unity in differences,” she added.

Tiglao will aim for a back-to-back win for the Philippines with reigning titleholder Karen Gallman in the Miss Intercontinental pageant.

This year’s coronation night will be held on December 20 in Egypt.
