MANILA -- Former beauty queen Shamcey Supsup took to social media hours after the announcement of her role as national director of the Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) organization.
In an Instagram post, Supsup said she is "honored with my new role for the organization that brought meaning to my life as a beauty queen and as a woman."
"I am more than blessed to be the national director of Miss Universe Philippines. As I continue to grow, I understand that being an architect and an entrepreneur are facets that will form part of my core as we continue the projects of Miss Universe, and create more opportunities for aspiring beauty queens in the future," she said.
"Thank you for the trust and confidence in my capabilities as a strong and independent woman," she added.
Supsup previously competed in Miss Universe 2011, finishing third runner-up to Leila Lopes of Angola. She is also a licensed architect, a host, and a restaurant owner.
On Monday, MUP announced that Supsup will join familiar names in the local pageant scene such as Jonas Gaffud and Albert Andrada in leading the organization.
It also thanked the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. and Araneta Group for handling the Miss Universe franchise in the Philippines for more than 50 years.
