MANILA—As she jets off to the United States on Tuesday for the Miss Universe pageant, Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados has teased details of her wardrobe, which she said would delight Filipino fans.
The 23-year-old Palestinian-Filipina beauty queen will be bringing some 30 outfits, including evening gowns and a national costume made by master couturier Cary Santiago.
"My natcos [national costume] is gorgeous... Feeling ko ito 'yong pinakabonggang natcos that I will ever wear in my whole life and the Philippines will ever see," she said in interview with ABS-CBN News on Monday.
She has also prepared 2 evening gowns for the pageant's preliminary round and finals night, which will take place in Atlanta, Georgia on Dec. 9 Manila time.
Aiming to replicate the success of reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray, which will give the Philippines a back-to-back victory, Ganados underwent rigorous training to perfect her ramp and public speaking skills, among others.
She admitted she put greater focus on "question and answer."
"I'm the type of person who would shy away when there's a camera... Right now, I'm confident about it. I've gone through a lot of things," she said, adding that talk show host Boy Abunda helped in polishing her communication skills.
She also believes winning the pageant is not impossible.
"I heard MUO [Miss Universe Organization] is the fairest pageant among all. So, it's not impossible, if I think the girl is really deserving. I'm not saying I'm that girl but if you really worked hard for it, then no questions, yes," she said.
"I grew up in a rural area in the southern Philippines. I've come to experience a simple and wonderful life with my grandparents. I know that they gave me a big heart and I know it will really show in an international arena, like the way how I answer. I really put my heart into it so that they know it's pure, it's real, it's genuine."
