It seems only natural that a Filipina beauty queen follow up her winning a prestigious pageant with trying out her luck in the entertainment industry.

By that standard, consider Karen Ibasco, crowned Miss Earth 2017 on Saturday, an outlier.

“No, I don’t have plans to join showbiz but I want to enter the world of hosting,” she said.

The articulate medical physicist was beyond thrilled to win the crown in front of hometown fans at Mall of Asia Arena.

She bested more than 80 candidates, as she demonstrated the perfect blend of beauty and intelligence.

“Panalo kung panalo, hindi dahil nasa Pilipinas ka. I really felt all the support of the Filipinos. I just want to extend my thanks to all the Filipinos who have supported me,” she said during the post-pageant media conference.

Now that she has won, Ibasco said she will continue to advocate the conservation of energy and embracing its renewable and sustainable sources.

“(My core advocacy) will still be the same because the issue of global warming, the biggest factor is still cut carbon emission,” she said.

Besides Ibasco, those who made up her so-called elemental court are Australia’s Nina Robertson as Miss Earth Air, Russia’s Lada Akimova (Miss Earth Fire) and Colombia’s Juliana Franco as (Miss Earth Water).

The Miss Earth 2017 pageant will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
