MANILA - The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has issued a commemorative stamp to celebrate 100 years of cinema in the Philippines.

PHLPost and the Film Development Council of the Philippines released Thursday the "Sandaan" stamp which depicts a stylized movie ticket, highlighting the dates 1919-2019.

Some 5,000 limited copies of the souvenir stamp sheet feature acclaimed director and producer Jose Nepomuceno, considered the "Father of Philippine Movies."

His film "Dalagang Bukid," released on September 12, 1919, was the first Filipino-produced and directed silent film, starring Atang de la Rama and Marcellano Ilagan.

Sold for P12 each, PHLPost printed 30,000 pieces of the stamp, designed by graphic artist Rodine Teodoro. The souvenir sheet is priced at P55.
