MANILA -- Vigan is among the most picturesque towns in Asia.
The Ilocos Sur capital city joined 12 other Asian towns in a list released by CNN Travel last August 28.
Known for its century-old colonial structures and cobblestone streets, Vigan is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.
It has also been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in 2014, it was one of the New7Wonder cities of the world.
Tourism Officer Edgar dela Cruz said it is an honor to be recognized as one of Asia's most picturesque towns.
"Isa itong karangalan ulit sa lungsod ng Vigan. Gaya ng ginagawa ng ating gobyerno, inaalagaan ang ating heritage na naging batayan kung bakit napabilang," he said.
(It is an honor. The government is preserving the city's heritage which is why it became a part of the list.)
Other cities on the list are Hoi An (Vietnam), Yufuin (Japan), George Town (Malaysia), Luang Prabang (Laos), Kampot (Cambodia), Phuket Town (Thailand), Saikung (Hong Kong), Zhouzhuang (China), Kota Gede (Indonesia), Galle (Sri Lanka), Mawlynnong (India) and Ghandruk (Nepal).
Vigan was established by the Spaniards in 1572, making it one of the oldest cities in the country.
