MANILA – Tony Award winner Lea Salonga is set to captivate audiences once more with her crystal-clear voice as she holds a two-night concert this August.

Titled “Perfect Ten,” the shows will be held on August 30 and 31 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.

She has handpicked four guests who will join her on stage including her daughter, Nicole Chien, who made her professional theater debut in Atlantis Theatrical’s “Matilda.”

Esang de Torres, who was under Salonga’s team in “The Voice Kids,” is also part of the concert. She played the titular role in “Matilda” and had a stint as Little Cosette in “Les Miserables” in Manila and Singapore.

Completing the lineup are theater stars Tanya Manalang, who alternated as Kim in the West End revival of “Miss Saigon”; and Michael Lee, who performed with Salonga in “Miss Saigon” and “Allegiance.”

“We (Michael and I) create rapport with one another and we have seen each other grow, from our mid to late 20s until now. We both have families and we get to talk about that. I think our friendship is growing stronger over the years, and he’s just someone who is supremely talented, and it’s ridiculous. I wanted him to come and reacquaint himself with Filipino audiences,” Salonga said of Lee.

The song lineup for “Perfect Ten” has yet to be finalized (or “locked and loaded,” in Salonga’s words), but the Broadway star assured that her concert will have something for everyone.

“We’re doing a lot of music for audiences that are familiar with what we do. So I think it will be a good showcase for the vocal talents that will be on stage,” she said.

“It will be an even mix of everything.”

When asked how she has evolved as a performer over the years, Salonga replied: “I think I tend to take more risks now vocally. I think my voice has stabilized to the point I can pretty much throw anything at it and it will be okay. Or at least I will attempt certain things with my voice and I know I’ll be okay.”

She went on: “There was a time when hitting a C or a D would be like, ‘Oh my God, I have to say a rosary to hit those notes,’ because I wouldn’t be able to do those consistently in the way that I would like. Now, it’s like Es, and maybe the occasional F and I’m okay. I’m not as easily intimidated by certain arrangements or certain types of music, so that probably what makes me different now as a performer.”

“Perfect Ten” features the stage direction of Floy Quintos, musical direction by Gerard Salonga, and accompaniment by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tickets are available at the Resorts World Manila Box Office and all TicketWorld outlets.
