MANILA -- A series of online activities will be held this July in celebration of National Children's Book Day (NCBD).
Themed "Sa Pagbabasa, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa," the activities are organized by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines' (CCP) Intertextual division, and will be livestreamed for free on different platforms.
The celebration kicks off with PBBY's awarding ceremony for the winners of its Alcala and Salanga Prizes at 10 a.m. on July 21, followed by the NCBD 2020 website launch at 12 noon. Both events will be shown on the Facebook pages of CCP and PBBY.
After the website launch, storyteller Posh Develos will read the book "Mas Masaya Kapag Kasama ang Pamilya" at 2 p.m. on the Facebook pages of CCP and CCP Arts Foundation.
At 3 p.m. on July 22, author and illustrator Beth Paroccha and Liza Flores will hold a workshop on drawing Filipino children's book characters. This will be streamed on the Facebook pages of CCP and PBBY.
Artist group Sinag will have an online session on illustrating books with difficult topics on the CCP and PBBY Facebook pages at 3 p.m. on July 23.
The last day of the celebration, July 25, will feature a talk show interview by the Lock 'n Roll group with the winners of the PBBY-Alcala and Salanga prizes. This will be streamed starting at 3 p.m. on the Facebook pages of Lock 'n Roll and the CCP Intertextual division.
Held every third Tuesday of July, NBCD aims to show the importance of nurturing the curiosity and imagination of young readers, and to commemorate the date of publication of Jose Rizal's "The Monkey and the Turtle."
