MANILA -- Organizers of Miss Philippines Earth 2020 will make history this weekend as they hold the country's first virtual coronation event -- a result of quarantines imposed amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Just like its pre-pageant events, the main competition of Miss Philippines Earth will show candidates parading from their own locations, with judges asking them questions real-time via Zoom.
The coronation event will be held on Sunday, July 5. It will be aired live at 10 a.m., and will later be streamed on the Miss Philippines Earth Facebook page.
Last month, three Filipina beauty queens said they were impressed with the way organizers of Miss Philippines Earth 2020 were able to quickly adapt to the "new normal" brought about by COVID-19.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Binibining Pilipinas International 2014 Bianca Guidotti, and Mutya ng Pilipinas Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo made their remarks in their online show "Queentuhan," saying they have watched the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 pre-pageant competitions.
"The other pageants were kind of like, 'We'll take our time to figure this out and plan this out.' But Miss Philippines Earth kind of just seamlessly went digital and they are having all these events online," Lizardo said.
