MANILA – Catriona Gray is optimistic Gazini Ganados will be able to “hold her own” during her reign as Miss Universe Philippines 2019.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Gray shared her impression of the Cebu beauty after she met with her backstage following her coronation last Sunday.

“She was so sweet. When I met her backstage, she was like, ‘Oh my gosh Cat I am so overwhelmed this has happened.’ She was the sweetest girl. I wish her nothing but the best,” she said.

Gray said she is willing to help Ganados prepare for this year’s Miss Universe pageant and further uplift the Filipino flag.

“That’s what a queen’s role is for me. You’re a part of the sisterhood. And though I am the reigning Miss Universe, if there is a piece of advice that I can give her, because there’s a lot of pressure and I understand that, if there’s a piece of advice I can give her, I’m more than willing to do that,” she said.

Nonetheless, Gray is certain there will be a lot of people here in the country who will lend a helping hand to Ganados.

“I have great faith in the teams here, in the passion of Filipinos that we have here that are able to support and mold our girls, I am sure we will do great,” she said.

Meanwhile, Gray admits to feeling overwhelmed with all the positive feedback she’s been receiving over her moving farewell speech last Sunday.

“I was really overwhelmed by the feedback. It was a really an emotional moment for me. The weeks going up to it, I was like, ‘I don’t know what I want to say,’” she said.

“Because I was thinking about so much and so much has happened on this journey. How do you put it into that amount of time?” she added.

Gray, however, said the message that she gave was really something from the heart.

“I really wanted to share, and to see that it touched so many people was really overwhelming,” she said.

During the speech, Gray expressed her deepest gratitude for all the support and love she received throughout her journey. She also talked about the hardships she went through, including overcoming her own fears, and conquering doubts and challenges for a purpose.
