MANILA -- Ayala Malls recently introduced new technology as part of its efforts to adapt to the "new normal" caused by the novel coronavirus.

Fully-automated, non-contact thermal scanners have been installed in three of its malls -- Glorietta and Greenbelt in Makati, and TriNoma in Quezon City -- as shown in a statement released Tuesday.

Ayala Malls said the "top-of-the-line" thermal scanners can measure the temperature of a group of people at a time, and "feature a 99% accuracy of +/- 0.3 degrees Celsius."

It added that the cameras also come with security features that can help detect pickpockets or shoplifters through facial recognition.

"Our customer's health and safety are our priority, and we have really put many protocols in place to welcome everyone back to Ayala Malls. We are investing in the best technology and we are proactive in training our staff, along with providing guidelines for our merchants to provide a safe environment for everyone in our malls," said Ayala Malls president Jenylle Tupaz.

According to Ayala Malls, more thermal scanners will be installed in entrances of malls with high traffic.

These include Market! Market!, Alabang Town Center, Ayala Center Cebu, Central Bloc, Abreeza, Centrio, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, UP Town Center, Ayala Malls Feliz, and Ayala Malls Fairview.
