MANILA -- Just in time for the Holy Week, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP) has uploaded its 2017 production of Aurelio Tolentino’s “Bagong Cristo” on YouTube.
Directed by Alexander Cortez for the group’s 42nd theater season, “Bagong Cristo” mirrors the narrative of Christ's passion and resurrection to examine the issues of class struggle and social inequality.
The play, written in 1907, is “as timely today as when it was first written,” DUP said in a Facebook page.
Starring Boo Gabunada as Jesus Gatbiaya, “Bagong Cristo” is the third and final installment of Dulaang UP's trilogy of uploaded productions with the themes of “remembrance, resistance and resurrection,” after Nick Joaquin’s “Fathers and Sons” and Floy Quintos’s “The Kundiman Party.”
The UP theater group also uploaded its musical production of “Ang Nawalang Kapatid” on YouTube.
