MANILA – Fashion designer Michael Leyva has enlisted the help of actress Angel Locsin in reaching out to medical workers battling the coronavirus disease in the country.
Leyva is one of the many fashion designers in the Philippines who have been busy in the recent days producing hazmat suits, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to be donated to hospitals.
On Wednesday, he shared a photo on Instagram showing him and Locsin with bags of PPEs for distribution.
Noticeably, each bag had a note in front which has a Bible verse.
“Sent over our first sets of PPEs for our heroes frontliners with our hero Darna herself Angel Locsin. I decided to put bible verses and words of encouragement to uplift their day. Mabuhay po kayo and Maraming salamat po sa malasakit,” Leyva wrote.
Aside from Leyva, the other Filipino designers who used their sewing skills and manpower to produce equipment for medical workers include Mich Dulce, Steph Lim, Patrice Ramos Diaz, Rajo Laurel, Patty Ang and Puey Quinones.
The Philippines is under a state of calamity as the government battles to contain the spread of COVID-19.
On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte signed a bill that would allow the executive branch to realign funds to help the government purchase more medical supplies needed in hospitals and testing facilities.
As of March 25, 636 patients in the Philippines tested positive for COVID-19.
