NEW YORK - Move over humans of New York. The aliens of Manila are taking over the Big Apple.
Pintô International launched this month "Aliens of Manila: New York Colony," an immersive installation and wearable art created by Filipino artist Leeroy New.
New is popularly known for his design worn by music icon Lady Gaga on the single cover of "Marry The Night."
The installation, currently showcased at Pintô's headquarters in East Village, was curated by its director Luca Parolari.
The "Aliens" are made of dollar store and surplus shop items, such as food covers, flexible conduits, cable ties, and huttlecocks.
"The nature of these aliens themselves, they are struggling to fit in a context that is alien to them, as much as they are alien to the context itself. This is a way of looking into immigration partially, almost like a forced exile, that many people in the Philippines and many other countries have to undergo," Parolari said.
"Aliens of Manila" will be making public appearances in New York City. The exhibit will also run until May 27. - Report from Don Tagala, ABS-CBN News
