MANILA – It’s confirmed: Winwyn Marquez will not join Binibining Pilipinas this year.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Marquez said she has decided to focus on her upcoming projects as an actress as well as her other work commitments.
“I will not be able to join BBP (Bb. Pilipinas) since I have an existing contract and projects lined up. Due to the nature of the competition, BBP has strict rules that you cannot have existing contracts when joining,” she explained.
“There will always be a part of me that wants to compete in the pageant setting, and masakit din sa akin na hindi ako makakasali, pero alam ko na hindi puwedeng sabay-sabay ang lahat ng bagay,” she added. “Kailangang mag-focus lang po sa isa to be able to succeed and do things well.”
Marquez went on to stress that she has “given this much thought and consideration, especially since when I focus on something, I commit 101% to it.”
Marquez first joined Bb. Pilipinas in 2015, setting her sights on the Miss Universe Philippines title. However, she only finished in the Top 15.
Two years later, the actress competed in Miss World Philippines and went on to make history as the first Filipina to join and win Reina Hispanoamericana, a Latina-dominated international pageant.
Early this month, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said Marquez has what it takes to be her successor.
Catriona Gray won the Philippines’ fourth Miss Universe crown last year after Wurtzbach, Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
