MANILA – Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez recently led the opening of an art exhibit that aims to raise funds for children.

Titled “heARTbeat,” the exhibit is a result of a partnership between the artist community ARTipolo and Save the Children Philippines, a non-government organization where Rodriguez serves as an ambassador.

More than 50 artists are showcasing their masterpieces at the ARTipolo gallery in Café Lupe, Antipolo until April 17.

Citing her visit to Marawi, Rodriguez said she witnessed how children can use art to send the message of hope and peace.

“Even in emergencies, art activities like drawing and coloring help young children relieve psychosocial distress,” she said.

ARTipolo president Pol Mesina Jr. said their group holds art sessions for street children, those in conflict with the law, and sexually abused youth through charity institutions.

“Art is an important tool for self-expression among children including those with disabilities,” Mesina said.
