MANILA -- Staying healthy is one of the ways to show your love, a heart doctor advised ahead of Valentine's Day.
Speaking on DZMM, cardiologist Dr. Anthony Leachon said loving yourself is as important as showing love for family and friends.
"Dapat ang love mo, hindi lang para sa family mo at sa work mo, dapat pati sa self mo," he said.
"Love yourself by actually protecting yourself not to be sick. Eh kasi kung mamatay ka, eh di walang maligaya sa pamilya mo," Leachon added, noting that you should always set time for yourself.
"Once a week, dapat may break time ka eh," he said.
"Ang reflection ko sa Valentine's is actually to focus on the family, and then love yourself by actually protecting yourself not to be sick."
It is also important to learn how to manage stress well "and the greatest stress buster is exercise."
Leachon also said that spending time with friends is also a great way to relieve stress. However, this should not always involve drinking alcohol and smoking.
He warned that depression and stress can also cause illnesses such as the broken-heart syndrome.
"Kapag ikaw ay may kabiguan, mata-translate into sickness," Leachon said.
