MANILA — Noted Filipino sculptor Ben-Hur Villanueva has passed away. He was 81 years old.
His family confirmed Villanueva's passing through a Facebook post last Saturday.
Specializing in his brass, metal and wood sculptures, Villanueva is best known for his 3-meter "Ang Supremo" sculpture in Bonifacio Global City, as well as the sculpture of the Risen Christ sculpture in Caleruega in Nasugbu, Batangas.
Aside from being one of the country's notable sculptors, Villanueva was also an art teacher at the Ateneo de Manila University, where he taught for three decades.
He then relocated to Baguio City upon his retirement.
Those who want to pay tribute to Villanueva can visit his remains at the Avelino "Boy" Santiago Memorial Homes in San Mateo, Rizal.
His internment will be on Saturday, February 1.
Villanueva is survived by his wife Lolit and their eight children.
