MANILA — More than 17 years since “Tabing Ilog” ended, the iconic youth-oriented drama is returning this year — as a musical.
“Kamusta ang barkada?” teased one poster that was released Thursday night, with the hashtag #TabingIlog2020.
The image shows the makeshift tire swing as prominently featured in the original ABS-CBN series.
Other lines included: “Kailan tayo magkikita?” and “Kita-kits sa tambayan?”
A separate poster unveiling the logo of “Tabing Ilog: The Musical” depicts a group of eight people sitting by a river.
Fans of the TV series would know them to be Anne (originally portrayed by Paula Peralejo), Eds (Kaye Abad), Corinne (Desiree del Valle), George (Jodi Sta. Maria), Badong (Paolo Contis), James (Patrick Garcia), Rovic (John Lloyd Cruz), and Fonzy (Baron Geisler).
ABS-CBN’s “Tabing Ilog,” which ran from 1999 to 2003, followed the group of friends as they navigated different challenges, as well as romantic relationships.
Since its conclusion, fans have clamored for a sequel, whether in the form of a movie or a new series, but reunions would only come up in real life as cast members gathered for special occasions.
It’s unclear still whether “Tabing Ilog: The Musical” will be a retelling of the original story, or an update on the characters’ lives after the ending seen on TV.
