MANILA -- Boy band phenomenon BTS was the most talked about K-pop group by Filipinos on Twitter for 2019, according to a list released Tuesday by Twitter Philippines.
The 7-member BTS led the list of Most Tweeted About K-pop Groups in the Philippines, followed by fellow boy band EXO.
Girl group Blackpink, which performed in the country last February, landed on the third spot, while boy group Seventeen ranked fourth.
Tomorrow X Together (TXT), the newest boy band from BTS' label Big Hit Entertainment, was the fifth most talked about group by Filipinos on the microblogging platform.
The list was completed by GOT7, Twice, Red Velvet, Stray Kids, and NCT 127, all of which performed in the Philippines this year.
The hashtag #BTS, meanwhile, topped the list of "Most Tweeted About K-pop Hashtags in the Philippines" this year.
South Korean pop groups and television dramas have in recent years become widely popular across Asia, and, increasingly, beyond.
BTS — or Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates as Bulletproof Boy Scouts — have amassed a global following in the previous years, becoming the first K-pop group to top charts in the US and Britain with a string of sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Paris and London's Wembley Stadium.
