MANILA — Actress-singer Roxanne Barcelo broke down in tears during a media conference Friday, as she reflected on 2019 as a tumultuous year of loss and abundant blessings.

Barcelo was among the cast members of “Love is Love” who answered question from the press, ahead of the romance film’s December 4 release.

Including “Love is Love,” Barcelo has had a streak of high-profile stints in showbiz in the latter half of the year. She was recently a cast member of the big-screen dramedy “The Panti Sisters,” and was a runner-up in the celebrity edition of “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

Those succession of projects started in July just after the passing of her father, whom she has credited as her No. 1 supporter and foundation, along with her mother.

“Almost naging gift and therapy para sa akin ‘yung mga trabaho na dumating sa akin,” Barcelo said, when asked by ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual for her thoughts on her recent career strides.

She recalled that on the third day of her father’s wake, she shot scenes for “The Panti Sisters.” The following day, she then filmed parts of “Love is Love.”

“Sabi ko, ‘I will give my all to honor my dad.’ I don’t care what people think or what people say — ‘Bakit hindi nagpahinga?’ Wala akong ganoong privilege. Wala akong privilege na mag-three months sa Bali at mag-aral ng yoga. Wala akong ganoon!” Barcelo said.

“My path in life is to plow through it with the strength that I’ve been given and the love that I’ve been given. Iyong magkaroon ako ng trabaho, ‘Thank you, Lord!’ Iyon ‘yung iniisip ko. This is such a blessing. Every day is a blessing. Ang iniisip ko, lahat ng trabaho, bigay ng Panginoon. Lahat ng role, salamat, Lord!” she added.

Unable to hold her tears, Barcelo recounted that she used her pain to fuel her performances in her projects. In the case of “Love is Love,” Barcelo said there were instances when she poured her real emotions into certain scenes, with the director, GB Sampedro, guiding her.

Barcelo went on: “Isa lang ‘yung word: grace. It’s really grace. God meets you where you lack. Kung ano ‘yung best mo, alam ni Lord. Ito na ‘yun, e, sagad na ako, e. Bibigay ko na lahat, so ‘yung natitira, grasya! And i-o-honor ni God ‘yun. So iyon ‘yung nari-realize ko in this last season of 2019.”

“Lahat ng sakit na nararamdaman ko, I will divert it into the most creative way possible… I did not complain. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, I will work hard because I have been working since I was 13 and now is the time na binibigay ni Lord sa akin. I will not allow this hardship or this loss to shake me, but I will allow it to make me the best person I can possibly be,” she said.
