Filipino actress Max Eigenmann on Thursday was named Best Actress for her role in the court drama film “Verdict” at the 2019 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
A “showbiz royalty” in the Philippines owing to her clan’s screen history, Eigenmann received her trophy at the awards ceremony in Brisbane, Australia.
“Being here tonight has truly been one of the most momentous and exciting experiences of my life. Receiving this is beyond anything that I expected or imagined,” she said.
In Raymund Ribay Gutierrez’s “Verdict,” Eigenmann portrays Joy, an abused wife finally files a complaint against her husband, Dante (Kristoffer King), when their daughter also gets involved in the violent struggle.
In September, “Verdict” won the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti New Horizon competition of the 76th Venice Film Festival.
In her acceptance speech on Friday, Eigenmann thanked her director, producer Brillante Mendoza, as well as the cast and crew of the film.
She dedicated the award to her co-actor King, who passed away two months after the filming of “Verdict” wrapped.
Thanking her family members, Eigenmann turned emotional. She mentioned her partner and their children, as well as her mother, actress Bing Pimentel, “who always pushes me to be the best that I can be,” and her late father Mark Gil, “who I know is looking down on me from heaven right now, extremely proud.”
“This is for you, Philippines! Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino!” she said.
