MANILA -- Just recently, Anne Curtis became a hot topic on social media after asking the press to stop asking female celebrities questions about tying the knot or getting pregnant.
And on Monday, another actress echoed Curtis' sentiments, saying that it can sometimes put pressure on women like her who are in long-term relationships.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News and other members of the media on the sidelines of the launch of her new endorsement deal with SkinCell aesthetic clinic, Jessy Mendiola admitted that she would appreciate it if she will no longer be asked about settling down.
"I understand where she's coming from kasi ako rin, there was a time na palagi akong natatanong about marriage, kung kailan ako ikakasal," she said when asked to react to Curtis' statements.
She added: "Sometimes we get pressured, kaming mga babae. I understand her side kasi they have their personal lives. People don't know what's happening, di ba? Malay mo they're trying [to have a baby]."
"Siguro [getting asked] once or twice is okay. Pero 'pag paulit-ulit na, I think dapat medyo i-respect na lang din natin 'yung ano (privacy) ng girls."
Mendiola went on to note that even non-celebrities experience similar situations as she asked the public to wait for women to share details about their personal lives instead of forcing them to open up.
"I'm sure you guys know that," she said, addressing female members of the press. "Di lang naman sa presscons or sa media, pati sa family reunions [tinatanong 'yan], 'Kailan ka na ikakasal?' 'Jowa nga wala pa ako, kasal na agad, di ba?' Let's just respect each other."
"Siguro Lu (her boyfriend, host Luis Manzano) and I give out that vibe na ready na kami, and it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that, you know, huwag na lang sanang paulit-ulit," she said with a smile.
"Balitaan na lang namin kayo [kapag ikakasal na kami]."
In previous interviews, Mendiola said she and Manzano have been discussing plans of settling down, but they have yet to push through with the idea of tying the knot.
The two celebrated their third anniversary last June.
