MANILA -- Even Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, it seems, has become hooked to the afternoon teleserye, “Kadenang Ginto,” starring Dimples Romana and Beauty Gonzales.
When Velasquez saw Romana at the Gabay Guro event last Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena, the singer excitedly told the audience, “Gusto kong magpasampal (ulit) kay Dimples.”
Romana was simply waiting on the sidelines as one of the hosts of the 12th Gabay Guro celebration. She was called early onstage by Velasquez and introduced the teleserye star, whose character Daniela Mondragon has become a favorite meme of viewers.
Romana graciously went up onstage and was readily introduced by Velasquez to the nearly 20,000 audience at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Velasquez had a first taste of Daniela’s wrath when the latter slapped her in “ASAP Natin ‘To” stage last July. At that time, Romana and Gonzalez guested on the Sunday noontime show to thank viewers for the success of “Kadenang Ginto.”
Last Sunday, Velasquez gamely portrayed Cassie (played by Francine Diaz in the teleserye), the daughter of Daniela. “Cassie, hindi ka muna papasok sa school,” Daniella told her daughter. To which Cassie complained, “But mom!”
Daniella insisted, “Hindi, hindi ka papasok sa school,” then slapped Cassie.
Velasquez apparently enjoyed the second slapping scene that thrilled a lot of people in the audience who were obviously fans of “Kadenang Ginto.”
Romana took a break from playing Daniela, the character everybody loves to hate in the afternoon soap, albeit only temporarily, to host the annual tribute to the teachers.
Velasquez, meanwhile, surprised the audience when she performed with the Aegis Band. She also did a duet of “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang” with husband Ogie Alcasid as the audience sang with them.
