MANILA (UPDATE)—Famous battle rap star Loonie was arrested by police in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City Wednesday night.

The rapper, whose real name is Marlon Peroramas, was caught with 4 others, including his sister, in the basement of a hotel past 8 p.m.

Seized from them were 15 sachets of dried leaves believed to be high-grade marijuana or kush worth some P100,000 and mobile phones, Makati City police said.

Loonie, who rose to prominence in the rap battle league FlipTop, denied police allegations.

Loonie said he went to the area to visit a kid with cancer.

Makati City police chief Rogelio Simon said they were tipped off about Loonie's alleged illegal activities.

Simon added they have been monitoring Loonie for a month, before the operation was conducted.

Loonie, his sister, road manager, driver, and another companion face criminal charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, police said.—With reports from Jeffrey Hernaez and Lady Vicencio, ABS-CBN News
