The story of a generation is coming to an end.
A newly cut sizzle reel for "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", the ninth film in the Star Wars series, has earned plenty of buzz and concern after it showed fan favorite character Rey wearing a black cloak and brandishing a double-bladed red lightsaber.
The sizzle reel, which was first shown at the D23 Expo, hints at a possible turn for Rey into the Dark Side. The last character to wield a double-bladed red lightsaber was the Sith lord Darth Maul.
The D23 Expo also unveiled a new poster of the movie, which shows Emperor Palpatine casting an unmistakable shadow over the dueling Rey and Kylo Ren.
Actress Daisy Ridley reprises her role as Rey along with co-stars Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose, Domhnall Gleeson as Hux, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Jimmy Vee as R2-D2, Billie Lourd as Kaydel Ko Connix, Naomi Ackie as Jannah, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and (thanks to archival footage) Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will open in theaters worldwide in December 2019.
