“BuyBust,” the acclaimed Erik Matti film featuring first-time action star Anne Curtis, is nearing the P100-million mark in worldwide ticket sales, its producer announced Thursday.
Reality Entertainment, which co-produced the movie with Viva Films, announced in its social media channels that “BuyBust” has so far earned P97 million at the global box office.
“BuyBust” initially ran for two weeks in Philippine cinemas starting August 1, but had to give way to the week-long Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. It returned to local cinemas on August 22.
The international ticket sales, meanwhile, are predominantly from screenings in North America, through Well Go USA as distributor. The film also had screenings in UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Singapore.
The film's box-office performance is seen to have benefited from rave reviews in the weeks leading up to its theatrical release, having participated in numerous overseas film festivals, notably making its world premiere in New York.
Curtis, the top social media personality in the Philippines, was also instrumental in sustaining buzz and spreading local moviegoers’ positive feedback, with her posts seen by her millions of followers.
