MANILA -- ABS-CBN big boss Charo Santos-Concio expressed sadness over the death of her friend, philanthropist and environmentalist Gina Lopez.
In an Instagram post on Monday morning, Santos shared a photo collage of Lopez, whom she described as "passionate" and someone with a "selfless heart."
"This is how I will remember my dear friend, Gina... always so passionate When she is on to something, she will definitely do it with all her heart, mind and soul, whatever it takes. When she would tell me her vision... the next thing I know, she’s already in the field doing something about it. No wasted time... no wasted opportunities... for the love of the people, the country and the environment. Gina, may your selfless heart inspire many more!!! Thank you for the unconditional love Rest now, my friend! #MaramingSalamatGinaLopez," Santos-Concio wrote in the caption.
Lopez, longtime chairperson of the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. (AFI), was a former environment secretary under President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lopez became known for her work in rehabilitating the Pasig River and La Mesa Watershed. As an advocate for children's rights, she also founded the Bantay Bata 163, a helpline devoted to reports of cases of child abuse.
She was the 1997 International Public Relations Awardee for Excellence for the Environment and the 2009 Outstanding Manilan Awardee for the Environment.
In lieu of flowers and mass cards, the family requests that donations be made to the ABS-CBN Foundation. There will be a public viewing at the La Mesa Eco Park on Aug. 22 to 23.
