MANILA—The stakes have never been higher as this week, as it turns out, is the final hurdle that the 6 remaining hopefuls need to jump to get into the grand finals of "Idol Philippines."
Only one will be eliminated before the "Final Showdown" next week --and to help determine that, they were asked to perform their chosen song from Gary Valenciano's discography.
Zephanie Dimaranan was up last for Saturday night and she did not disappoint with her cover of "Huwag Ka Nang Umiyak," cementing herself as perhaps one of the favorites going into the finals.
Both Vice Ganda and Moira dela Torre gave her a standing ovation. The former compared her to a young Regine Velasquez, before taking the chance to highlight Dimaranan's stand-out character.
It was revealed by the comedian that Dimaranan was getting high praise for her willingness to listen to criticisms and advice.
Velasquez echoed this: "You improve and you improve and you improve. But what makes you different from the others is you have a really nice character. You can inspire other people to be like you."
Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Idol Philippines" airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
