MANILA — The call to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN ranked among top trends on Twitter globally on Thursday, as a House panel neared the voting that would determine the fate of the embattled network.

As of 6 p.m., #VoteYesToABSCBNFranchise was the No. 1 trending topic in the Philippines, and was in the top five of the worldwide list.

The vocal support for ABS-CBN came from different sectors, from Kapamilya viewers, celebrities and their fandoms, rights groups, to organizations across industries.

Previous campaigns backing ABS-CBN's restoration similarly became trends on social media, including #LabanKapamilya and #KapamilyaForever.

ABS-CBN's free-TV and radio broadcast have been off air since May 5, when the government issued a cease and desist order a day after the network's franchise was left to expire despite an application first filed in Congress back in 2014.

Further broadcast platforms of ABS-CBN were ordered shut in June — TVPlus and SKYdirect.

On Thursday, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises held summations of the 12 panel hearings on ABS-CBN's franchise renewal.

Voting was expected after the summations, determining whether the ABS-CBN franchise bills would go through to plenary deliberations.
