Lea Salonga had her "very, very special" moment as she returned to the Tony Awards stage Sunday (Monday in Manila), this time as a performer along with her fellow cast members in the Broadway show "Once On This Island."
Salonga was on her fourth time at the prestigious awards show, having been, in the past, an opening performer, and a top winner. But this, she noted, was the first time she was "on the Tony stage with my cast representing our Tony-nominated show!"
"Once on this Island," which opened to rave reviews in December, took home the Best Revival of a Musical award. It was nominated for eight Tonys overall.
It tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who falls in love with a rich boy from the other side of the island. Salonga plays the role of one of the island gods who will help Ti Moune reunite with the man who has captured her heart.
